So, I feel REALLY stupid for asking this, because I work at a PetCo and order all the live animals so you’d assume this wouldn’t be so terribly hard… But I can’t find Killifish ANYWHERE in the San Fernando Valley! Here’s a list of the spp. I was hoping to find. If anyone knows a secret place, or a company with a decent website that’s willing to ship them I’d love to hear about it!

Please also keep in mind relative costs! I know i can order 150 mixed panchax off ebay for and things like that, I just don’t want to invest my entire paycheck into these little guys. :)

well if you have them shipped theres going be an outrageous shipping price (live animal) but liveaquaria.com is one of the best and most respected online companies, and their warehouse is in CA so you’d probably get them within 1 day, downside, shipping is $30 for orders under $250. Also depends on species, some killifish are more common than others. You could also try aquabid.com its an auction site sorta like a fish e-bay, they always have different species and varieties and theres always a huge selection, downside is a lot of the places people ship from is where the species is found natively, so for killifish you could be getting stuff shipped from south america, europe of africa (insane shipping im sure!) but theres usually a lot of breeders from the US on there, if you do choose aquabid make sure you read the seller reviews, a lot of people on there are private breeders/dealers but theres also a lot of people on there who just want to get rid of old fish. Make sure whoever you buy from have a guarentee, return or refund if DOA (dead on arrival). You could also post a WTB ad on craigslist or try some fih forums, some forums, like monsterfishkeepers.com have a marketplace section for hobbyists in different areas wanting to buy/sell/trade fish and for such a common fish, you shouldnt have a problem, good luck!!!

    About that spp list?
Most killifish are seasonal, so not usually available during the cooler months.
There are usually a variety of eggs available on ebay that sell for as little as .99 for 50, + $8.99 s&h at that time, I ordered some once, and without thinking hatched them all at one time. The fry did great until I let a friend babysit them for a while.
Simply hatch a few at a time and sell what you don’t want to keep. Or if you’re buying for the store, hatch ‘em all. As they mature, the males will need to be separated.
Male killifish simply don’t tolerate tankmates other than their own females, and at least 2 females with one male.
