This fish came with our tank. We’ve had the tank since April. The previous owners had the tank for 4 years, I’m not sure how long this fish has been in it.

He/she holds her own against the fin-nipping tiger barbs we have and doesn’t have any fin damage, so I’m assuming it’s a semi-aggressive to agressive fish. I don’t know if that helps in species ID, but I thought I’d include that just in case it does.

It doesn’t have an upturned mouth, so it’s not a betta (if it was, that’s a wierd coloured betta).

A killifish of some sort maybe?
Thanks bettachris!

That would explain why she tends to school with my green tiger barbs since we got them. They’re just barbing around. ;)

I knew she wasn’t a betta or a goldfish even though that’s what everyone else seems to think. *rolls eyes*

You’ll get your 10 points when it’ll let me chose a best answer :)

    very common.

    long finned rosy barb…. female.

Edit:stop answering if you dont know. this is one of the most commonest and easiest to breed fish out in the aquarium trade. stop wasting the askers time by saying stupid stuff. if you dont know, dont answer… and really shouldnt be in the fish section as again this is probably behind goldfish, bettas, is the most commonly known fish.

Edit2: chris, the way you sex them is based on coloration. males are pinker where the one in the picture is yellowish gold which indicates female.

They arent that bad aggression wise, they are like tiger barbs as they will fin nip from time to time, but most are very easy to keep and very peaceful in community tanks.

  3. ~.C.H.R.I.S.~ says:

    It’s a long-finned rosy barb.

I don’t know the difference because Im not familiar with this species.

I agree with betta chris, people ask questions to get sure awnsers, not guesses, just thought I might add.

  5. Feral says:

The fish is a long finned mutation of the Rosy barb. This fish needs to be kept in groups of at least four or five otherwise it will become a bully and start attacking other fish, more through self defence than being bullied, but in a lot of barbs’ minds, prevention is better than cure, so attack before you are attacked is the general rule
