I have a 30 gallon that I intend to make into a mostly cichlid tank, with 1 golden wonder killifish as well. I’ve heard some types of cichlids are less agressive if kept without others of their species, so I want to keep single members of various species, none reaching more than 6 inches and none less than 3 inches at full grown. What are the best types of cichlids for this plan?

You’ll best look at dwarf cichlids. Blue rams and kribensis would go great. They both grow less then 3inches
Dont overstock it, 4max cichlids in a 30g tank

  1. The Piscivore says:

Keeping single members of various species is exactly how not to keep these territorial fish.

  2. kar says:

    Bolivian and blue ramst
    also fairy and dwarf cichlids

you could keep a pair of kribensis cichlids, they grow to almost 6 inches, or a pair of rams, they grow to almost 3 inches. their are smaller shell dwelling ones you could keep, you have a small tank and they would be more appropriate for it but the need to be in groups. most of the fish you would think to keep should at least be in pairs, most fish dont like to be all alone. and trying to do so will cause them stress and add to their aggression and they will never thrive.
