Question by whoami111: my killifish is being a dumbass, what should I do?
here’s the story. My gouramis died of some illness, so I decided to put a siamese fighting fish in my tank to replace them. The problem is, I didn’t know bettas will attack killifishes, plus I also didn’t know killifishes are retarded enough to go back to the same spot where the betta is, and take more punishment. Does my killifish enjoy pain or something?

Obviously, take out one or the other. If you have several MALE bettas in the tank, then take those back, as males should not be put in the same tank.

Killifish most likely don’t have very long of a memory….

I don’t think those are supposed to go together.

  3. Parachromis says:

Killifish are territorial… just like a male Betta. They both want the prime real estate.
It’s not a matter of being into pain,it’s a matter of wanting that turf… so one or the other needs to go.

Be thankful (somewhat)….. and hate to burst all the “Betta are Badass” bubbles…. most species of Killifish would have already killed the Betta. So either you have one of the milder species or it’s a female.

  4. Skoog says:

Killifish look just like a female betta. Your betta is probably dominating your killifish as a mate (bettas do that). He will harass it until one of them dies. Remove one of them. You should probably go with the betta since he can be comfortably kept in a bowl. If you don’t, your killifish will lose color and energy, and will eventually die from the stress or an injury.

  5. Sarah says:

Male betta’s and killifish are quite aggressive. If your tank is still infected with whatever illness, they could be suffering from it, which will make them even more aggressive towards one another.

Remove one and then treat your tank if need be.
