Question by Michael M: Gardneri Killifish?
What are these compatible with? I saw some at a fish shop but I never like to ask the employees anything. I have a tropical community, 55 gallon tank with some platies, mollies, smaller tetras. I really liked the way these fish looked but I really don’t know anything about them and can’t find much on compatibility for them on the net.

They can be kept with standard community fish (tetras, danios, corydoras, livebearers). This site also lists angelfish (and discus) but I wouldn’t personally mix them: http://www.timstropicals.com/FreshwaterFish/Carp/GardneriKillifish.asp If you get these, only keep one male per tank. Live/frozen food should be given along with flake/small pellets for best health (vary items in the diet).

If given enough cover, they may work in your tank, I’d just keep an eye on the mollies, since they can be a little territorial.

You CAN keep them in a community tank, but IMO, they’re better off by themselves. I keep killies in separate tanks, where they show more color and will be more likely to breed. Just set them up a 5-gallon, no filter necessary (but it’ll be easier to keep cycled and clean).
