That question is unanswerable, because “killifish” is a broad category (hundreds of species), and “community fish” is an almost infinitely broad category (thousands and thousands of species). The best advice I can give is to study carefully any species you are thinking of adding.

The most common practice, though, is to keep killifish in breeding pairs or small breeding groups, without other fish in the tank. That’s why many killifish fanciers have large numbers of small tanks.

re read the name of the fish and ask me again

forget the killifish. go for community fish because there is more variety and are really easy to breed if you want them to. i mean livebearers on that

    Please be much more specific.

People do realize that Killifish were originally considered “community fish”…. right?
Killifish ,the name, does not signify every single species as “small tank”,”small number”,or “no tankmates”…. neither does it mean aggressive.Mostly hostile to their own species, they ignore most fish that don’t challenge their territory (or authority).
I’ll give you “common” and “scientific” to get you started on “community friendly” Killies…
Lyretail Killifish (Aphyosemion australe)… best in trios of 2F/1M,but bigger area tanks can have more trios.
Norman’s Lampeye (Aplocheilichthys normani)… small schooling Killie.Schools up to 30.
Blue Panchax (Aplocheilus panchax)… likes 3-4F/ 1M,but have more if you keep this ratio in mind.Mixes very well with fish from it’s native habitat….. Gouramis,Bettas, and Rasboras
Rocket Panchax (Epiplaytys annulatus)…. peaceful surface dweller.VERY good jumper (Rocket?).
Gardner’s Killifish (Fundulopanchax gardneri)…. peaceful community fish that can be stocked in pairs (several pairs if tank’s big enough).
Surimam Blue-Stripe (Rivulus xiphidus)…. peaceful, can be stocked in pairs (several pairs if room).Another jumper of note.

These are the ones you would probably see most (lots of shops get the Lyretail seasonally)…. just remember a good-fitting lid with no gaps (most Killies can “thread the needle” when jumping).

This website has killifish check them out or you can go to the store nearby that sells fish, then you can get a better idea.
