Question by Zeldar: Are clown killifish compatible with bettas?
I have a 2.5 gallon tank that is lightly planted. It has wisteria, a couple marimo balls, several bamboo, soon to be pellia, and a piece of driftwood. Right now there is a crowntail betta in the tank. Could I add 2 clown killifish or will they not get along with the betta?

Nooooo haha that betta fish will tear anything you put into the tank apart, betta fish are extremly aggressive even when it comes to females of its own species, either put it into another tank or get another community tank

   Judging by the look of the fish, i don’t think its a good idea. Bettas tend to mistake other colorful fish, especially if they have long colorful tails. Your betta may attack your fish and even kill them. But it doesn’t mean that Bettas are aggressive to ALL other fish, it is possible for them to live with other fish. Some fish not to be put with bettas for example are Guppies, Angelfish, Goldfish, and tetras. But hey, if your fish aren’t very impressive, not that colorful and have pretty short fins, i think you can try. I recommend you put smaller and peaceful fish with your clown killifish.
   Also, i think your tank is too small to house 3 fish, you should let your beta live in it and get your killifish a different tank.

   nothing is compitable with bettas i dont think…and how u going to mix fresh and salt water fish/?????????

   I wouldn’t advise putting any other fish in that tank with your betta. 2.5 gallons is really only big enough to keep him nice and happy. If you’re dead set on giving him a tank-mate, get an apple snail. =)

   These other posters with “personal experience” obviously don’t have MUCH personal experience or they’d know that bettas ARE compatible with SOME species. I’ve got a crowntail betta in a 10 gallon tank with 4 red platys and an apple snail (Pomacea Bridgesii).

   Before I got the 10 gallon, I had the CT and the snail in a 2.5 gallon. It worked very well and both my pets were extremely happy. If you were to put more fish in that small tank with your betta, you’d be overstocking.

   alright, Betta’s are not as aggressive as people make them out to be, in fact, you can put Betta’s with most community fish, the problem being is that tetra’s angel fish, guppies, platy’s all will nibble at the fin’s of the Betta causing them to look really shabby,. Now putting them with others betta’s in a small area can cause some problems but I have two batta’s in the same tank together now and they get along just fine because they are in a big enough area they don’t bother each other. The problem really comes when you put males with females. They do not get along at all most of the time. Sometimes they will, it just depends. Fish are very trial and error. Sometimes fish that are not suppose to be together live harmonioulsy together.

   2.5 gallon is really not big enough for anything but one beta (a nice size for one betta is atleast a 5 gallon tank). Some things are compatible btw but not a clown killfish.
